"I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!”(Lk 12:49)
Dear Readers
Dear readers
Among the reasons to celebrate this month (and we know there are always many!) I’d like to point out two.
First is the hope-filled and joyful event that took place June 3, when Pope Benedict XVI invited members of the ecclesial movements and new communities to Rome to celebrate the Vigil of Pentecost. This was the second of its kind, after one with John Paul II in 1998.
This time more than 400,000 people attended and millions more around the world followed everything via satellite. I was one of them, thanks to the EWTN live broadcast, as perhaps were many of you. You’ll find more on this event in our next issue.
The second reason for celebrating relates to the awards Living City continues to receive (see page 2). It is an opportunity for all of us to live the words, “Your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and give praise to your Father in heaven” (Mt 5:16). It’s also a way to thank all those who love, support and work for this magazine in countless ways.
I hope you’ll enjoy reading this issue, which the Living City staff has tailored to summer reading (at least in this hemisphere): short articles on a variety of topics, so that all who pick it up will, we hope, find something stimulating and insightful.
Looking forward to your comments!
