“Repent, and believe in the Gospel” (Mk 1:15).
Emergency in South East Asia
We are all touched by the rippling news coming from Oceania and South East Asia: powerful tropical storms (80% of Manila with 12 million people under water), devastating typhoons, tsunami with 20-feet high waves, grade-8 earthquakes, death and destruction.
“It’s like at the times of Noah,” they wrote from New City, the Focolare magazine in the Philippines.
Our heart goes out to our friends living in Samoa, in the Philippines and Indonesia, and we would like to be there to help. Thousands of people, our brothers and sisters, are in dire need of a home, medicines, clothing, while a constructive wave of solidarity is spreading across the globe.
We firmly believe in the love of God and that even out of these devastating circumstances something good can come—a greater generosity, a sense of being one family, brothers and sisters who suffer and rejoice together, greater awareness of the connectedness of all in nature and a commitment to become better stewards.
The Focolare community in the Philippines suffered great loss. Through the communion of goods, in the 3 days after the floods, 2,000 people were assisted with first emergency care.
