"I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!”(Lk 12:49)
Forgiveness & reconciliation
Dear Readers,
At New York’s Malcolm Shabazz Mosque in May, close to 150 Muslims and Christians came together to remember their two leaders, Chiara Lubich and Imam W. Deen Mohammed, both of whom had died a year earlier. The legacy they left their followers was one of reconciliation and of restoring unity to the human family.
A young mother and her daughter shared their strategy in overcoming a difficult situation that could have ended in division and conflict (see page 6). It struck a chord for many: the solution to overcome anger and revenge is forgiveness and love.
Imagine if the whole world would abide by these values: forgiveness and reconciliation.
We decided to dedicate an entire issue to this.
One thing led to another: we learned that the UN named 2009 the International Year of Reconciliation.
To help our own personal journeys to reconciliation, we found five keys from Chiara Lubich. Then we found so many more stories than we could accommodate in our 32 pages.
Make sure to pass them along. Why not ask a friend to subscribe? Our new subscription campaign has just begun (it runs until December 1), and it is called
“Take 2: 1 to Savor, 1 to Share.”
You’ll find more details at livingcitymagazine.com.
We can’t do it alone. We need help in our efforts to reach out to as many people as possible with our message.
Can we count on you?Clare Zanzucchi
