The Cube of Love continues to have an impact in conflict resolution, character building and social development among students in schools across the United States, Canada and many other parts of the world.

We recently heard from Sr. Betty Ann Martinez, principal of St. John the Evangelist School in Pensacola, Florida where the Cube of Love is used in the entire school from pre-K through 8th grade. She describes the whole climate of the school as having changed to a kinder one. Used by the teachers and other school staff, it helps to create an atmosphere of caring for one another that has permeated the whole school. The students tell her, “I am reminded to love everyone;” “I try not to bully anymore and when I see someone being bullied, I help them;” “I tell my mother about the saying on the cube of love for that day. She can then also practice living it;” “I used to be an enemy with someone, now I love him;” “It’s really hard to love my enemy, but I do it.”

Another elementary school, Holy Trinity in Poughkeepsie, New York, uses the Cube of Love through the 8th grade. Here the teachers have seen a great change on the playground. One shared: “You see children sharing toys, offering to accompany a student to the nurse and reminding one another about the day’s phrase. A boy in the 2nd grade saw one of his classmates was off by herself. He approached her and invited her to play with him and the group he was with, but she said no and told him she really wanted to play with another group. Rather than just walk away and continue his playing, he approached the other group and explained that his classmate wanted to play with them. He convinced them to let his friend join them and later commented, ‘This is how I shared our point of love today which was to “share the other’s joy or hurt.’” The girls in the other group added that they all had fun playing together with the new addition.”

“Our school has chosen to make the Cube of Love an integral part of our religion curriculum,” writes Joseph Norris, principal of the 430-students St. Ambrose School in Old Bridge, New Jersey. “Teachers use the Cube as a teaching tool that frames religion instruction around deep spiritual concepts [which ] are approachable and applicable. Practical elements, such as how to deal with bullies, are used in the classroom to help illustrate the Gospel values of loving your enemies.”

When Pope Benedict XVI addressed a group of educators at The Catholic University in 2008 in Washington, D.C., he advocated the education of the human person as an integrated being, vessel and steward of all aspects of life. The Cube of Love aims exactly at this by transforming the world one child, one classroom, and one school at a time, enabling us to see the new buds bursting forth in this revolution leading to a civilization of love.
